5C Sandbox Campaign - the Collapse Mission 3

Command acknowledged the Squad's report and appreciated the displayed reluctance to give in to baseless rumors. After interrogating the apprehended brigands from last mission, the newest facts are thus: Apparently there is an epidemic, alright: Western agents secretly spread drugs among the unsuspecting populace, which turn upstanding citizens into disoriented and violent madmen. This threat needs to be contained and dealt with.  Our Squad is therefore tasked with enforcing the blockade of the area, lest the western agents and their helpers escape. Noone is allowed to enter or leave. Of course a situation like this is hard to keep secret - even in the USSR - so we are ordered to act tactfully and not just open fire on what mostly will be frightened civilians. I'll be using the framework if the repell-mission but instead if just having the enemy assault the checkpoint, there will be the usual encounter-markers with the chart of the presence-patrol being used. This means it'l

With Mission 2 being a combat patrol, which means heavy fighting is to be expected, the question is, what made the state unleash such a treatment on a domestic neighborhood? All seems calm... A squad of fellow riflemen was ambushed and wiped out by some western-rumour-fuelled ad-hoc militia, which has cordoned off the area, threatening to kill all who enter... These men were our friends! Our brothers! The hammer's coming down! And the sickle, too, I guess.... "Look: All I'm saying is if this is all a hoax, why are we wearing NBC-suits?" -"Shut up, will you?" We go in with our full force and fully armed - there can be no holding back when dealing with this scum!  Not only does the squad now contain an RPK and an RPG, but I also rolled up a support level of 3, meaning I have a 50% chance of getting backup right off the bat, should I need it. This will increase if meeting a lot of resistance or taking casualties.

As those Eureka NBC soviets sat on my shelf unplayed for way too long, I figured it was time for some table action. Given their protective gear, I went for a Zombie outbreak scenario - the general idea being to play the government response, which in the movies gets eaten so the movie makers can show their remains to illustrate that help is not coming. Rules wise I'm using Nordic Weasel Games FiveCore with it's Sandbox patrol supplement. As base for the Zombierules I'll usethe "on Samhain's Eve" Supplement for Chevauchee (FiveCore's medieval brother) and/or the Heroes and Horrors supplement. We'll be following a Squad of Soviet Motor Rifles, which has been dispatched to deal with a large scale upheaval somewhere in the USSR. Rumors abound of a Virus or leak in a chemical plant or meteorite strike turning upstanding citizens into reckless and decidedly un-socialist hooligans . Crazy talk, obviously, as far as our protagonists are concerned... As suggeste
